Austin Sheerline Ambulance Restoration

I now have the first replacement frame pieces ready to install and have treated them with glycol to reduce the chances of future rot. These will be glued into place with high tech waterproof  glue and the aluminium sheathing nailed back with coach builders pins .

Austin Sheerline Ambulance Resoration

Assessing the work to be done , there is rot in the timber frame in a number of places, mainly where water has penetrate due to failure of 1951 vintage sealants. I will start with the frame around the left hand door entry. I have now removed the rotten wood and am making replacement parts from NZ Beech a native hardwood with good grain characteristics.

Austin Sheerline Ambulance Restoration

This blog comes to you from New Zealand and is to be the continuing story of the restoration of a 1952 Austin Sheerline Ambulance that has been dry stored in a shed for 35 years. My wife and I are volunteer Ambulance Officers in our rural area as well as being Austin enthusiasts so we could not resist this project . We own several other classic cars including an Austin A40 Devon , Austin Healey 'Frog eye' Spite and a 1951 AM Lagonda 2.6 Saloon. Below are some Photos of the Ambulance on its way to its new home. .
